Reno's Speech About The Importance of Reading

Thanks to the Master of Ceremony who has given me the time to speak here. It is a pride for me to speak in front of you all. So I can gain knowledge from you all and you all can gain knowledge from me. And we can draw Science Together.
No doubt, the knowledge tied up by writing. And the writing would not be useful if you do not read it. However, What is reading? What are the benefits? How is reading situation in Indonesia?
According to the Oxford Dictionaries, reading is a look at and comprehend the meaning of (written or printed matter) by interpreting the characters or symbols. So what are the benefits of reading itself? According to an Arabian scientist, Dr.Aidh Abdullah Al-Qarni in his book La Tahzan, Some of the benefits of reading are:
1. Reading relieves anxiety
2. When busy in reading, someone will be blocked to enter into the foolishness.
3. Reading habits make people too busy to get in touch with the lazy people and unemployed person.
4. With frequent reading, people can develop flexibility and fluency in spoken words.
5. Reading helps developed thinking and clear thinking.
6. Reading enhances one's knowledge and improve memory and comprehension.
7. By reading, people take advantage of the experience of others: wisdom of the wise and understanding of the scholars.
8. By often reading, people develop their ability; good to get and process science as well as to explore different disciplines and their application in life.
9. Reading helps a person to refresh his mind of clutter and save time for not in vain.
10. With frequent reading, one can master a lot of words and study the various types and models of sentence; further more he can improve his ability to grasp the concepts and to understand what was written "between the line upon line" (to understand what is implied).
Then how is the reading situation in Indonesia?
In bataviase.co.id site, the current reading situation of Indonesian people is if there are a thousand people in Indonesia, so, only one person who has high interest in reading. This proves that the reading interest of Indonesia people is still very low. This is caused by globalization that causes people more interested in watching rather than reading. So, no doubt, that the government must seek stimulation to make the Indonesian people like reading.
Some of the stimulation that might be done by the government is to increase reading community residents by doing a tightened synergy with the government in promoting interest in reading. This is important because interest in reading will not increase if the government was eager but the spirits of citizens are less, or vice versa.
The Government has made the mobile library facilities and public reading park that is expected to increase the reading spirit of Indonesian society. Then just our responsibility who have right of the facilities, to use it as well as possible.
Therefore, let brothers and sisters. The benefits of reading are so much. So why we miss it while success is in our sight?
