Grateful For Allah's Blessing

This is an English Speech, presented by Muhammad Abdullah, the student of Kafila International Islamic School Jakarta, in Fajar Hidayah School, although he didn't win the competition, but, He has done a great spirit and great confidence in presenting it. That's the best point i think, than only become a winner, but not a real winner.

Honorable the principles of Fajar Hidayah School
Honorable the juries,
Dear audiences,
Ladies and gentlemen,

May Peace be to you and Allah's mercy and blessing as well
Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

All praises be to Allah, the Almighty, the Creator of the world, who has been giving us blessings and favors, so due to those we are able to attend this precious occasion. May His peace and blessing be upon our prophet Muhammad, his household, his companions, and his faithful followers who strive in Allah’s religion; Islam.

It’s a great pleasure for me to have this opportunity to give a speech on the topic “Grateful for Allah’s Blessing” on this precious occasion.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Allah has been giving us favors, so many favors; in which if we want to count them we will never be able to number them. What we can see in our body now, our health, our ability to see, to hear, to talk, to walk, to sleep, to laugh, to sit and to stand like this. It’s all His favor. Imagine if we can’t see, we will never know the person’s face beside us, we can only hear him and talk to him. If we want to walk and visit some interesting places we must need someone to accompany us and we can’t see the beautiful scenery in front of us but only feeling and hearing, we can’t ride a bicycle, a motorcycle, or drive a car. This is only one favor what we can imagine, so how if we imagine all favors? Of course we will never be able to count all favors given by Allah.

Allah says in Qur’an, Sura Ibrahim at the 34th verse:

وَآتَاكُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ مَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُ وَإِنْ تَعُدُّوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ لا تُحْصُوهَا إِنَّ الإنْسَانَ لَظَلُومٌ كَفَّارٌ

“And He gives you of all that ye ask for. But if ye count the favors of Allah, never will ye be able to number them. Verily, man is given up to injustice and ingratitude”

So, what we must do is grateful for His blessing by enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and doing sincere worships and acts of devotions. Worships and acts of devotions aren’t only as an obligation, but it becomes a need for us. Because if all people on earth show ingratitude, Allah is free of all wants and worthy of all praise indeed. Allah says in Qur’an Sura Ibrahim at the 8th verse:

وَقَالَ مُوسَى إِنْ تَكْفُرُوا أَنْتُمْ وَمَنْ فِي الأرْضِ جَمِيعًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَنِيٌّ حَمِيدٌ

“And Moses said: "If ye show ingratitude, ye and all on earth together, yet is Allah free of all wants, worthy of all praise.”

Moreover, Allah says in Qur’an, Sura Luqman at the 12th verse:

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا لُقْمَانَ الْحِكْمَةَ أَنِ اشْكُرْ لِلَّهِ وَمَنْ يَشْكُرْ فَإِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِهِ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ حَمِيدٌ

“We bestowed (in the past) Wisdom on Luqman: "Show (thy) gratitude to Allah." Any who is (so) grateful does so to the profit of his own soul: but if any is ungrateful, verily Allah is free of all wants, Worthy of all praise”

Ladies and gentlemen,
Look or think about someone who hasn’t got this favor, so we will show gratitude to Allah. Look or think about some one who can’t see, so we will feel that an eye we have is really a favor; look or think about someone who can’t hear, so we will feel that an ear we have is really a favor, look or think about someone who can’t talk, so we will feel that a mouth we have is really a favor. Do this in all parts of body we have, and everything we have, so we will feel that this life is really a favor to us. Praise be unto Thee the Almighty; Subhanallah.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Never show your ingratitude to Allah, it really will make us in His punishment, in the world or Hereafter. It will make us feeling no life in this world. I take refuge in Allah; Naudzubillah.

Allah reminds us in Qur’an Sura Ibrahim at the 7th verse:

وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ لأزِيدَنَّكُمْ وَلَئِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ

“And remember! Your Lord caused to be declared (publicly): "If ye are grateful, I will add more (favors) unto you; but if ye show ingratitude, truly My punishment is terrible indeed."

I hope we can always remember this reminder, so we will always be grateful for Allah’s blessing in our life.

Finally, I’d like to convey my highest appreciation and heartfelt thanks to distinguished juries and audiences on this precious occasion. In parting, allow me to tell you, a statement from Dale Carnegie “I was sad because I had no shoes, until off on the street I met a man without feet”.

So, let’s be grateful for Allah’s blessing by enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong and doing sincere worships and acts of devotions. May peace be to us and Allah’s mercy and blessing as well.

Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.
